The Edentec 2000 and 2000W, made by Nellcor, are Apnea devices which monitor patient breathing effort and heart rate. Later models are known as the Assurance 2000. It operates both on AC power and on a rechargeable internal battery (100 hours maximum on a fully-charged battery.) The device is for monitoring only, and will do nothing to affect any alarm condition. For this reason it is recommended that the monitor’s user should be trained in CPR and artificial respiration.

While the 2000 can print real-time data through the rear data port, the 2000W with its recorder box, which sometimes appears as an external unit (the "W" stands for "Write") offers the ability to record apnea events in memory for later download to a printer or computer. Some units also have the optional memory module, which appears as a separate unit underneath the main part of the monitor, and has a separate charger cord and recepticle; this allows for extended history to be recorded. (In the photo above, the memory module is the long rectangular section directly under the white sticker).

The Edentec monitors include variable settings for breath and heart sensitivity, breath rate and apnea period settings, and low and high alarm settings for breaths per minute. Settings are done manually using a recessed push-button control which moves a revolving indicator wheel. The unit will also support a remote alarm and includes a sibling alarm and reset system.
